Massage (from the French word 'masser', meaning 'to rub') is one of the oldest therapies known.

The powers of Massage were recognised and recorded over 5000 years ago and were common among the civilisations of ancient Egypt, China and Greece.

It may have developed by discovering that if you rub a sore area then you not only get relief of pain from that spot but also in other parts of the body. There are basic massage strokes usedwhich stimulate and detoxify with the movements mainly made in the direction of the heart.

Massage aims to ease away muscular tension, to dispel tiredness and to reinforce depleted or unbalanced energy. By manipulating the soft tissues of the body, Massage can relieve muscle tension and so provide mental and physical relaxation. Stimulating the skin with Massage techniques is also believed to improve blood flow towards the centre of the body and thus improve circulation.

Massage is very useful for helping the pain caused by sports injuries and is also frequently used in rehabilitation programmes for patients who have an accident or stroke.

  • Massage can help the following conditions;
  • Mobilising stiff joints
  • Aiding relaxation
  • Improving muscle tone
  • Relieving neck and back pain
  • Stimulating endomorphins, the body's natural painkillers
  • Improving drainage of toxins from the tissues

Helping the healing process by improving the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and connective tissues.

Massage is also a convenient way of applying therapeutic substances to the skin and underlying tissues. Many sports massuers use warming or analgesic creams and oils, whilst Aromatherapy massage uses a variety of essential oils.

The basic techniques of Massage can be learned and used to self -treat at home if mobility is a challenge or a qualified Massueur can be found to provide the correct treatment for whatever needs correcting at the time.

Today its popularity has seen a rise here in our own western culture. Many people have regular Massage to help them relax and stay in peak physical shape.

Those engaged in physically active pursuits, such as dancers and footballers, find it particularly useful for maintaining muscle tone. It can help you prevent future physical weaknesses and strains. The various movements will help you to relax tight and tense muscles, also improve circulation and encourage the elimination of toxic waste.

Sports Injury Massage and Pain Release Techniques.

Sports massage is the manipulation of soft tissue for injury prevention and therapeutic purposes. It is widely used at all levels from the serious sports athletes to those who just enjoy the occasional trip to the gym or pottering around in the garden. It will help reduce the risk of personal injuries, improve injury recovery and enhance personal performance. Massage is also an excellent remedy for muscle tension, improvement of bodily functions due to the increased stimulation of circulation and helps promote relaxation of both the body and mind.

Pain release techniques are an important part of this treatment. At some point in our lives we suffer form one form of pain or another, and if it is a long-term condition it will eventually cause distress both emotionally, mentally and on other areas of the body. There are ways in which this pain can be reduced, controlled and sometimes removed.

By using “Trigger Pointing”, the application of pressure to the point of pain, it is possible to reduce pain levels down significantly within a muscle. When there is pain due to tight muscle strain this can be stretched and pain release methods used to alleviate this problem. Even if there is pain within a joint, this too can be reduced and controlled.

A regular massage will help to improve you physically, emotionally and mentally and is something that can be enjoyed by all ages and sensitivities.
