Ancient Philosophy
Thousands of years ago the ancient holy men of India contemplated the question of whether nature is ultimately unified. These men were devoted to silence and the inner life, but the rishis lived much further in the past- they were responsible for writing the most ancient texts of Veda, or revealed Truth, such as Rig Veda, which may predate the Egyptian pyramids by several thousand years.

It is interesting to learn that the depth of consciousness which was known to the rishis were also captivating to the young Lord Rama, who was supposedly a divine incarnation, He begs the sage Vasishtha for the instruction into the nature of these secrets.

The rishis were knowledgeable about the fundamental nature of reality. They were like us just as capable of dividing nature up into space, time, matter and energy, but they turned their backs on such an approach, which so dominated our way of seeing and thinking about the world.

They chose to enter the gap, where thinking cannot go. They used a simple twist in their awareness, but one that has profound consequences –it was like turning the objective world inside out. They reasoned that a person must be in a state of waking, sleeping or dreaming. The rishis looked closer and detected that in between these three states there is a gap. This realization opened up the possibility for leaving behind the usual boundaries of the five senses by diving through the gap.

St PAUL said ‘ "that which is seen, hath not come from that which doth appear".

It comes from the void, the space between our thoughts; we find the possibilities of creative genius and spiritual awareness that elude us when we remain attentive only to our mediocre thoughts.

Today we can learn from this profound wisdom of the ancients, by becoming more aware of our ‘REALITY'. And our relationship to it. Most people today live in a mental fog, only remotely sensing that they are part of some greater reality. The majority today have evolved only to the point where they believe philosophical questions should be left to the philosophers and mystics since they are abstract and have no real place in their daily life of the average person. Nothing could be further from the truth! If you are to base your life on anything, you should have as high a frame of reference as possible. Through becoming self-aware, i.e., being more cognizant of your personal relationship to the whole of life, you become more intellectually, and above all intuitively, aware of how to guide your life toward successful living. To arrive at this end, learn to apply the great lessons of the ancient philosophies, the scientific and the metaphysical which contain the mystical truths to your life, it will indeed make you more successful by giving one a new consciousness of oneself.
