From the eastern perspective, the movement's channels basic life energy from the lower energy centre, or chakras, to the highest physical energy centres, which are in the brain. Then, according to Eastern thought, this energy is directed from the brain to the cosmos, linking the individual's energy to the energy of the universe.
In the Indian yogic tradition, this energy is called prana , and the energy that is released and channels into the body is called Kundalini. The body's Kundalini energy is stimulated by Kundalini yoga exercises.
This vital energy, according to the eastern perspective inhabits not just your body, but also the entire cosmos. Thus it is sometimes referred to as ‘ COSMIC ENERGY'.
The essential goal of Kundalini yoga is to channel and move energy via the nervous system and via the meridians systems. Kundalini yoga transports energy from the body's lower energy centres , in the pelvic regions to the highest energy centres in the brain . Similarly, it transports nerve energy from the base of the spine to the brain.
Yogi Bhajan, the master of kundalini yoga, has said ‘ YOU EXPEREINCE THE EFFECTS OF KUNDALINI WHEN THE ENERGY OF THE GLANDULAR SYSTEM COBINES WITH THE POWER OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, TO PRODUCE SUCH A HEIGHTENEND SENSITIVITY THAT YOUR BRAIN CAN FUNCTION AT ITS OPTIMAL CAPACITY, YOU BECOME TOTALLY AND WHOLLY AWARE.

The Transformative Process
The greatest value of yoga lies in its practical application; therefore it is best to learn this from an experience teacher.
The goal of course is according to the yoga sutra is to arrive at a state of mind that is known as a realization of who you are, not the mind but the witnesser of the mind, as the mind is not first cause, but only what is experienced. You therefore reach a consciousness which is from within. The goal is therefore to make possible the shift from the outer reactive thinking to the consciousness of knowing which comes from within.
It is then understood that it is the mind that is said to undergo the transformation leaving the person in an enlightened state, which means that the distortion of everyday life becomes purified and perceived as an illusion.
The practicing of yoga on a daily basis is understood to bring total well being from the change in consciousness and a detachment of the illusion of the world, to a shift in realization that everything from the Source is perfection, the practice of yoga therefore brings us to a state of union and a knowing of this perfection which permeates into every area of our being.
The most popular of yoga is known as the Hatha yoga . Most people are familiar with this type of yoga, because it deals with the physical. Most westerners associate it only with the general health of the body. While, indeed, the body can be healthier through its practice, the main concern of Hatha Yoga is utilizing physical postures and breathing exercises to stimulate the psycho-physical chemistry, so as to awaken what are called the chakras, or psychic centres. Different schools of yoga may differ slightly as to the location of the chakras or psychic centres , but the general consensus is as follows.
There are seven psychic centres, the first is at the base of the spine, the second at the naval area, the third at the spleen, the fourth in the central upper body adjacent to the physical heart, the fifth at the throat, the sixth in the middle of the forehead, and finally, the seventh covering the scalp area.
Each psychic centre relates to certain stages of consciousness. The theory is that by more fully activating each psychic centre, the mind grows in awareness.
The knowledge that these psychic centre exist comes from the internal psychic vision of their existence during meditation in expanded states of consciousness.
Most schools of meditation suggest that the activation of the psychic centres takes place all at once. Experience has taught us that while activation of all centres may be experienced all at once, for many people activation takes place one at a time. Total activation is said to bring total mental enlightenment to the one having the experience, and through this, a breaking of the wheel of birth [death and rebirth] or the need to continue to reincarnate unless it is a matter of choice. If all this is true, and years of meditation has taught me that it is, then all study and understanding of mental reality should be cross –referenced with all other truths.
